APDA Information & Referral (I&R) Center @ UNM
The I&R Center has free Parkinson's disease information including brochures and DVDs explaining the disease. The I&R Center provides referrals for callers looking for physicians, research studies and support groups in the state. We work with the APDA Chapter and its board of directors for our state in an effort to ease the burden and find a cure for this disease. We provide facilitation and speakers for support groups in our region.
The I&R program coordinator is Sandy Skaar. Her phone number is 877-515-4560, and her e-mail address is sskaar@salud.unm.edu. Sandy has provided assistance to people with various diagnoses for a number of years. Her experience and expertise are a great asset to the I&R Center @ UNM.
Dr. Sarah Pirio Richardson is the APDA I&R Center Medical Director. She studied at the National Institutes of Health for three years of fellowship training in movement disorders, where she was actively involved in NIH research. Dr. Pirio Richardson is a frequent invited guest speaker for the medical community and has many published research articles.
Many people with Parkinson's disease in New Mexico are underserved: young onset Parkinson's disease, those living in rural locations, those living on reservations, the incarcerated, and even those who are yet to be diagnosed.
Please consider our I&R Center a source of information and referral for our entire state. Together, we seek to ease their burden and find a cure!
