EXERCISE &
DANCE
Nia Exercises
The Nia Technique™ is a body-mind-spirit fitness and lifestyle practice. Nia
incorporates elements of the dance arts, martial arts and healing arts for a
diverse and stimulating cardiovascular, aerobic workout that is challenging yet
easy to follow. Students improve strength, flexibility, mobility, and stability
for greater functioning in our everyday lives. In Nia, it’s important that we
move safely and in accordance with The Body’s Way, how our bodies are designed
to move. It’s also important that our movements are inspired by the music. We
dance both alone and as a group, and we increase our awareness of our bodies in
class and in our daily lives. Movers of all abilities and levels of experience
are welcome

Therapeutic Dance Class
Elizabeth Sandoval will be facilitating a therapeutic dance
and creative movement class for adults living with Parkinson’s and other
mobility issues beginning this February.
Elizabeth
is a licensed massage therapist and dance therapist-in-training. She has a degree from UNM in Psychology and
Dance and is currently facilitating classes for Keshet Dance Company and theUNM

dance to help people from diverse backgrounds live fuller, healthier lives.
Classes will include gentle warm-up and movement exercises
that enhance brain functioning and coordination followed by therapeutic dance
combinations. There will be plenty of opportunity for collaboration and
spontaneous creativity, and classes will be shaped in part by students’ needs
and desires.
Classes will be affordable; with discount rates for group
purchases. Classes run every other Sunday from 1-2 pm at Maple street dance space, corner of Maple
